Lockwood honored by UI Physicians for excellence in the workplace
Dr. Gina M. Lockwood, clinical associate professor of urology and clinical associate professor of pediatrics, received the 2024 University of Iowa Physicians (UIP) Excellence in our Workplace Award, given to a medical director whose leadership and innovation improve the delivery of clinical care.
Dr. Lockwood has served since 2019 as medical director of the urodynamics suite in the Department of Urology. She also serves as pediatric director of surgical quality for the operating rooms in University of Iowa Health Care Stead Family Children’s Hospital.
She was cited for her overall commitment to leading quality improvement and process optimization as well as for specific initiatives in her director roles. As medical director of the urodynamics suite, she has successfully fostered a sense of ownership among the staff, resulting in a morale boost and an increase in the quality of the studies. As pediatric director of surgical quality, she has championed initiatives that include the improvement of antibiotic and opioid stewardship, safety of midazolam administration in preoperative surgery, and surgical safety checklist optimization.
UIP is the largest multispecialty medical and surgical group practice in Iowa, with more than 1,000 physicians in 19 clinical departments across UI Health Care. The Excellence in our Workplace Award is one of seven annual awards that honor clinical excellence among UIP members.
