The Department of Urology offers fourth-year electives from July through October to visiting medical students enrolled in an LCME-accredited medical school. We cannot accept applications from students in osteopathic medicine programs.

Visiting students can rotate in our four-week Advanced General Urology (URO:8401) rotation, obtaining exposure in subspecialty areas. Our four-week rotations are approved and competitively arranged by the department on a rolling basis beginning January 15 each year.

For a full description of advanced clerkships, visit the Carver College of Medicine’s Fourth Year/Advanced Curriculum page.

The University of Iowa Department of Urology offers visiting medical students:

  • A supportive and collegial atmosphere, with students, residents, fellows, and faculty working together in a wide range of clinical experiences
  • Educational programming that includes access to the newest technology available in urologic care, including robotic and laparoscopic labs that employ state of the art 3D-printed models, cadavers, and pigs
  • Excellent quality of life in one of America’s best college towns while learning from an inclusive and family-oriented group of professionals who encourage participation and curiosity
