As a visiting student, you will have the opportunity to receive financial assistance to support you during your clerkship. The Department of Urology offers two scholarships for visiting students:
- Burr H. Perrin Scholarship for Visiting Students in Urology
- Underrepresented Communities Scholarship for Visiting Students in Urology
Applications for financial assistance may be submitted at the time of elective applications and no later than May 15. Please be aware that a scholarship award does not guarantee a visiting clerkship seat. Clerkship seats are contingent on availability and on final Carver College of Medicine visiting student elective approval.
Burr H. Perrin Scholarship for Visiting Students in Urology
The Burr H. Perrin Scholarship for Visiting Students in Urology provides financial assistance to visiting medical students interested in a four-week advanced elective at one of the nation’s most respected urology clinics.
The scholarship is open to students who have successfully completed the third year of medical school at an LCME-accredited institution. We cannot accept applications from students in osteopathic programs.
One or two talented students from outside of Iowa are selected each year for this award, which is intended to assist with travel and housing expenses during the elective.
This is your opportunity to learn about all aspects of urology while experiencing firsthand the breadth and depth of the outstanding clinical training and education available to residents who match at the University of Iowa.
Awardees also develop a 10- to 15-minute presentation covering an aspect of urologic medicine to be delivered during one of the department’s educational conferences.
Underrepresented Communities Scholarship for Visiting Students in Urology
The Underrepresented Communities Scholarship for Visiting Students in Urology encourages medical students who are from a background that is underrepresented in medicine, or who are interested in working with underserved populations, to pursue advanced clinical study in urology.
The scholarship is open to students with an interest in urology who have successfully completed the third year of medical school at an LCME-accredited institution. We cannot accept applications from students in osteopathic programs.
This scholarship is awarded annually to one or two talented students visiting from other medical schools and is intended to assist with travel and housing expenses during the elective.
