The five-year University of Iowa Urology Residency Program accepts four residents each year.
Residents are matched for the full five years through the American Urological Association match in January or February. They begin their training the following July.
Patient care is the foundation and the premier obligation of our department and the highest excellence in patient care is our goal. This is achieved by fostering expertise and specialization in all aspects of urological care among our faculty, supplemented by skilled residents, an outstanding nursing staff and a support staff devoted to our mission. Our aim is to be at the forefront of new developments in medical and surgical techniques and technology that have beneficial applications to urological patient care. We continuously and critically review our performance as we strive to provide the highest quality of care.
Our residents receive comprehensive and innovative urology training at Iowa’s only academic medical center. Residents appreciate the high volume of cases spanning the full range of urologic subspecialties, multiple rotation sites, research opportunities, enthusiastic and approachable faculty, and living in the Iowa City area.
Our program aims to:
- Equip residents with comprehensive and self-sufficient proficiency, enabling them to excel in autonomous practice, whether pursuing fellowships, private practice, or academia
- Cultivate well-rounded individuals who value the relentless pursuit of knowledge and demonstrate unwavering dedication to the betterment of both the field and their communities
- Foster education such that the University of Iowa Department of Urology is seen as a national leader in urologic patient care, education, and research
- Support and establish a culture of resident well-being to ensure our residents are emotionally healthy and able to provide the best care possible
