The Genitourinary Reconstruction Surgery (GURS) Fellowship at the University of Iowa offers high-volume surgical training, premier research infrastructure through the national TURNS consortium, and graded clinical autonomy to prepare fellows for academic and clinical leadership.
Why Train at Iowa?
Comprehensive operative breadth: Gain mastery across male urethral reconstruction, urologic prosthetics, complex abdominal reconstruction, radiation injury/cancer survivorship, and transfeminine gender-affirming surgery.
TURNS research access: Power your academic productivity with direct access to the multi-institutional database of the Trauma and Urologic Reconstruction Network of Surgeons (TURNS), a 20-surgeon national consortium responsible for over 96 peer-reviewed publications.
Clinical autonomy: Drive patient care and sharpen surgical judgment by managing your own independent fellow-run reconstructive clinic alongside dedicated operating room surgical days.
Robotic and advanced training: Work directly with faculty specialized in complex robotic reconstructive techniques and men’s health.
Flexible program duration: Choose between an intensive 12-month clinical track or an optional 24-month track featuring dedicated clinical or basic science research time.
